Break Up Breaking You?

"Experience the Word of God, in the power of the Spirit."

Have you heard the recent news of some scientists in London who claims to have moved closer to making a pill that you can pop that can get rid of bad memories? So far they have been successful only on rats so let’s leave it to that for now. But, it is true that we all have memories that we wish we could erase.

Trying to deal with emotional distress by yourself can not only be tough but also be damaging as God never made you to work it out alone. (Read about “Not made to do it alone.“) When an individual goes through the trauma of a broken heart, it can be extremely turbulent.

Here is your way out:

Check Your Heart

Analyze what went wrong. What was your role in the problem? If we can rightly analyze our pasts, it can help us be a better person in the future. You should probably find someone mature around you to help you see the situation rightly, too.

Guard Your Mind

Now as you analyze, don’t overburden your mind by processing too much of what went wrong. Don’t start blaming yourself or get into self-pity mode either. Don’t let your moods be a response to the thoughts that the devil sows. Statements like, “this is how my life is going to be and etc.” are the results of accepting the lie of the enemy in your life. Never allow anything in your mind that is less than the attitude that God wants in your heart. [tweet this] Your best days are ahead of you so don’t stay in your yesterdays. Ephesians 4:27 says, “and give no opportunity to the devil.” (Read more on Not all Tomorrow is from Yesterday)

Pursue God

When you let go of something, it is human to replace it with something else. Don’t get out of one mess to another. Don’t try to replace your void by human measures. It is not enough that you resist the devil’s plans of trying to sink you in depression; you need to feed your heart with the word of God. Nurture the things of God in your life and starve the thoughts of the enemy. What you pursue is what you adore and what you adore is called worship. [tweet this] Let no one but God take that place in your life. No one else is worth that place. If you ever pursue someone it should be someone who dwells with God that when you go close to God, the Lord will then lead you to that special someone for your life. Everything else is not worthwhile. (Read more on The Pure Pursuit!)

Rest in God

To let your heart heal, allow the Holy Spirit to use the balm of forgiveness through you. As simple as it sounds, the truth is that wounds that are covered take a longer time to heal. The best place to uncover your wounds is in the presence of God. Mathew 12:20 says, “a bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory;” Some people foolishly interpret this as God supports smoking. But what this text really means has depth; a wounded reed and a dimly burning lamp He will not put out. Gently pour out your heart in the presence of God, and let God heal your open wounds.

Celebrate Love

One of the greatest responses of broken hearts is to block everyone else out of your way. Mostly, even your best friend gets locked out. But I encourage you to warm your heart and let those that love you, let you feel loved. Fear and broken trust makes us build walls and we think that they will protect us but those walls end up imprisoning us. Let go of resentment and anger and let the light of Jesus transcend the crevasses of your heart.

People seem to admire in others what they lack. Companies are looking for capable people. But interestingly God works the other way. When the world is looking for perfection, God is looking for people who are willing to admit that they are not perfect. What draws God is a broken contrite spirit. Why? God cannot fill what is already full. [tweet this] When you are full of the world then you are empty of God. It is in our weakness that His strength is revealed.

I write to every empty-eyed, broken-heart that has no more tears to shed, you are not alone for your Creator who moulded you in His very own image has promised that “He will never leave us nor forsake us”.

God is drawn best to you when you lack strength to do it by yourself anymore. [tweet this] As you reach out to touch Him in your pain, God’s mighty power and love for mankind is revealed.
