Raising up a New Remnant
In Deuteronomy 9, Moses, when preparing the Israelite people to enter the Promise Land, declared:
Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven. A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!
Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he which goeth over before thee;(1-3)
This was Moses completing his final address to the Israelites; it was critical his people understand that the Presence of the Lord was their everything!
We Begin by Understanding.
Whether crossing the Jordan, raising the dead or choosing to have another child, understanding must come, that the battle is not about us. To survive this day, and thrive in the next, we must position our hearts to understand that it is the LORD who goes before us to fight every battle!
Since victory comes through the Lord who goes before us, we must therefore do everything to make sure that the Lord is on our side. It does not matter if the whole world is against us; what matters is that the Lord is by our side.
Every Outcome in our life is completely Dependant on How we Host the Lord.
As a Beloved of the Lord, do we wake up each morning and cry, how may I host You well today, Lord?
Can we daily ask hard questions of ourselves, such as what habits need to end? What desires or friendships must cease, so that I don’t lose the favour of God’s Presence in my life?
Can we begin to say no to what we want and yes to the Lord?
We must do whatever is necessary to secure the blessing of the Lord, His Presence, like Jacob did.
Jacob understood His Life was Dependant on the LORD Going Ahead of Him.
When Jacob returned to Canaan with his large family, his brother, Esau and his armies were waiting for him. Carefully Jacob sent gifts of livestock, then his families ahead. Alone, Jacob wrestled with God.
No matter what, Jacob refused to let go, until the Lord blessed him:
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. When he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. (Genesis 32:24-26)
In that encounter, Jacob owned up before the Lord, “I am Jacob, the deceiver! Yes I am unworthy!” Nevertheless, Jacob held on, determined to not let go until he had received the blessing of the God of his father.
Like Jacob, do we have the humilty and the hunger to recognize our complete need for the Lord this day?
Or willl we let pride steal our destiny in God?
Never our Righteousness, Always the Lord’s
Moses warned the Israelites not to fool themselves that they had somehow earned rights to passage to the Promise Land by their righteousness. He clarified,
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee. (Deut 9:4)
Reality check: The Israelites didn’t earn the Promise Land by their goodness. It was just that the wickness of the nations living there was greater.
Truly, none of us come from a perfect lineage nor are we, ourselves, a perfect people. The only perfect Man every born was our Lord Jesus!
Let us not even think or say that we earned anything by our righteousness and risk cancelling our destiny in the Lord!
Instead, let us confess: Not my righteousness, Lord! Your Nearness is my greatness!
May we perfectly surrender our lives, our will, our desires to the Lord, so that His Nearness will frame our lives!
God Frame 2.0
God is raising up a remnant people who are determined to do whatever is needed to frame their life with the Presence of the Lord.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being. (Acts 17:28)
May we each have the grace to be aligned to His Presence this day and arise as the endtime Remnant whom God has intended!
