The Bangalore Times reported on a survey concerning sexual relations: “If a recent survey is to be believed, Bangalore is the place for casual sex.” Another survey report in the Times of India highlighted the approximate percentage of casual relationships throughout India. A few of those findings are as follows: Mumbai: 54.4, Delhi: 40.6, Goa: 39.7, Kolkata: 27.1, Bangalore: 25.7, Pune 19.2, Chennai: 6.4
I am certain that this situation (whether exposed or not) is the same for other cities and places around the world.
According to researchers, the rise in promiscuity has been attributed to changing lifestyles, excess of free time, spur of the moment desires; and the influence of alcohol and substance abuse have been identified as key factors.
The thrill of anonymity and the freedom of no strings attached, coupled with the empty pride of multiple affairs are all central to this epidemic that the enemy has unleashed to deceive generations.
So why on earth are such immoral practices on the rise without proper intervention? Here are a few thoughts that I want to take you along:
Taboo no more:
Gone are the days when “sex” was considered as a taboo word. Provocative images and messages bombard us on all fronts. Yet, many parents and elders continue to avoid discussions or even make mention of the word “sex” in front of their children. Shy? Tradition? Embarrassing?
Well, if we don’t confront this reality of crumbling moral values and rampant corruption, our generation will continue to be in grave danger.
Would it not be more appropriate for parents to have conversations with their children and take the opportunity to direct them in the correct path rather than to throw away this responsibility into the hands of peers who can potentially lead them astray?
Parents; it is critical that you establish open lines of communication with your children so that they can understand what is expected of them. They can only “know better” if you communicate the expectations.
Blame Game:
Cultural invasion?
Peer pressure?
We really do need to stop playing the blame game.
Sin did not originate in western culture or in Hollywood for that matter. It goes back to Adam’s time, and it’s been on earth ever since.
But the only difference is that with the use of media and technology, sin is more amplified and bolder for all to access easily as they please.
Is there a Solution?
Yes, my friend; the Bible is the only solution! When the world around us is getting more and more perverse, that is when we must run to God with more fervency.
As Paul said, we must die daily to every desire that is not from God. In other words, we must put our sinful desires to death daily so that it does not overcome us. Let us continue to flee from temptations.
Pursue God with all your heart (2 Tim. 2:22). The Holy Spirit, our Helper, is with us and His grace is sufficient for us. Depend on Him and He will direct your path.
