Our Heart in Christ: #ChurchDNA 2

I hope all you precious readers are excited about this new series – Church DNA as it’ll help us to understand how we ought to function as the body of Christ, in rest and glory. I believe by the help of the Holy Spirit many breakthroughs will come through this teaching.

In this subject, let’s dive in to the state of our heart. Let me start by pointing you to the natural state of heart.

Can we follow our heart? The Natural state of heart

The world thinks that it is critical to follow your heart. But “follow your heart” creed certainly isn’t found in the Bible.

The Bible actually thinks our hearts have a disease: “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
Jesus, the Great Physician, lists the grim symptoms of this disease: “out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander” (Matthew 15:19)

Truth is that it is natural for us to live in sin, therefore we must start by surrendering our hearts to the lover of our soul, Christ Jesus.

A surrendered heart

Jesus didn’t come into the world simply because we have some bad habits that need to be broken. He came into the world because we have such dirty hearts that need to be purified and revived.

“You have heard that it was said, “You shall not commit adultery.” But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27–28).

So many believers become frustrated in their struggle to overcome secret heart-impurities, The problem is that we don’t allow our heart to be captivated by God.  We don’t take our problems to the presence of God.

The key to the victory is to surrender to God. We need to surrender our hearts daily at the feet of Jesus.

What is a captivated heart?

Psalm 24:3-6
Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord
Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
They will receive blessing from the Lor
and vindication from God their Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob.

There are three things you can learn from the verse above.

1. A heart that is captivated by God is a heart that seeks to be in His presence!
2. A heart that is not just content with His presence but wants to see His glory by climbing the mountain of God.
3. A heart that seeks His grace to be all what God has called us to be and to receive all what God wants us to receive and in that there is no disappointment.

If you are not running after God, then you are running after the world. A heart that is captivated by God is a heart that is in active pursuit of Him. [tweet this]

A transformed heart

A transformed heart is a heart of power. It is a heart that is in sync with heaven.

How can we synchronize our hearts with God? The key is to “become as little children” in our personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ (Matthew 18:2).

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall seek God” (Matthew 5:8).

What is a childlike heart?

A humble, unpretentious heart could truly be called a “childlike heart.” Children have brilliant purity of heart, there is no negativity debris in their hearts. As we grow, our memory power increases and the pain associated with words installs in our hearts for a longer time; that pain hardens your heart.

When your heart is hard, it’s harder to receive the things of God. He can only speak to a tender heart …

Ask yourself today: Is my heart tender enough to listen to His spirit? Sometimes tender heart can be translated as emotional.

Showing emotions is not a weakness – it’s a sign of a strong heart. The most perfect man(Jesus) wasn’t afraid to show His emotions. He wasn’t afraid to show His tears.

We do not feel intimate with anyone we are emotionally disconnected from. Hence, emotions are a necessary part of a healthy, growing and intimate relationship with God.

Sometimes we are taught to suppress emotions at church because we stand the risk of being judged as emotional. Tears are a sign of a tender heart. And as the Scripture says, a broken and contrite heart God will not forsake. The best place to let out all your emotions and vulnerabilities are at the feet of Jesus. He will hold your tears in His palm and lift you in due time.

Worship God with a childlike purity

A childlike heart captivated by God seeks after Him earnestly. Worship with openness, honesty, and unrestrained joy. That type of happy authenticity should be a seal of our faith as we synchronize our hearts with Christ.

Four Things to Reflect Upon:

1-  Are you worshiping God with a childlike heart?

2- Are you praying and exposing your heart to Jesus with a childlike faith?

3- Are you reading the Bible with a childlike curiosity and excitement?

4- Are you loving God with a passionate heart?

Be willing to pursue a deep, intimate, personal relationship with the Lord. Touch the Heart of God. And your heart will be revived with true happiness, peace, joy, and fulfillment that you will never find in the world.
