Dear Reader,

To have a superior advantage with our God, we must learn the language of our God. God’s love language is giving.

Take Elijah in the contest of Baal on Mount Carmel. Before his nation, Elijah called fire from Heaven! What did he do to create such an answer? How did he trigger such grace?

Before Elijah called for fire, first he built an altar unto God.

And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, “Israel shall be your name.” Then with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord; and he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed. (1 Kings 18: 30-32)

Elijah commanded four huge pots of water poured on the altar, and repeated this action, twice more.

Wasn’t an altar to be sanctified with oil? Moses had instructed: And you shall offer a bull every day as a sin offering for atonement. You shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to sanctify it. (Exodus 29:36).

Why didn’t Elijah pour oil on the altar he was repairing? He knew a sacrifice must be costly.

Remember, there was a huge season of famine happening. In drought, what do you lack the most? Water. This commodity was more costly than oil! As Elijah looked for a supernatural encounter with Heaven, he knew the language God prefers is not words, but sacrifice.

And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. (2 Kings 18: 36-38)

Fire from Heaven came when a Man of God understood God’s protocols, the ways of the Lord and the investment required. Our God speaks through giving! As we communicate to God through our altars and our willing costly sacrifice, surely, the Lord draws near.

God loved the world so much that He gave….

Most of us shudder at Abraham’s ultimate test of giving. After walking before God for decades, the Lord comes to Abraham and asks Abraham to offer his son to God as a sacrifice.

All credit to Abraham. He did not say, “Get behind me satan!” He did not run to Sarah to validate what he had heard. Abraham did not even argue with God, stating the fact that it took him ninety-nine years before he bore this son of promise.

Instead, Abraham got up early the next morning, called his son and headed to Moriah as requested (Genesis 22).

When Abraham freely submitted his most precious to God, God counted Abraham as his friend.

This is Kingdom living, walking before God through a life of substance, of faith and of sacrifice.

If you want a superior advantage with your God, you must learn to communicate in the ways He speaks! The Lord speaks through giving! What might you do to have a superior advantage with God?
