Hello dear friends, I’m excited to announce our newest series that we have been studying together at our church. Sometimes we allow the circumstance, our personal convictions and our upbringing to define us. Journey with me on this series and let us together discover the true culture of God’s bride – the Church’s DNA.
God-given DNA of Christ
There are 2 different types of Church DNA: i) the local church, and ii) the body of Christ.
The local church’s DNA is the key to church structure and mission. It is influenced by certain circumstances, traditions, roles, and other areas.
The body of Christ, as a whole, regardless of denomination or what part of the body you are, has one unique DNA – the God-given DNA of Christ that manifests through His word. The DNA is the same throughout the body of Christ, for all its members and in every local church. Our focus is to become like Him through the transforming of our minds.
Nowadays the spiraling-out-of-control technology has the ability to genetically engineer DNA. This mutation of DNA can pose serious risks to human health.
Similarly, many local churches are unhealthy precisely in proportion to their mutation of the spiritual DNA. The problem comes when the DNA of the local church culture becomes the DNA of the body of Christ.
We must challenge ourselves to embrace the culture that God wants us to.
I want to bring you to our first subject in the series. We are a church defined by the culture in Jesus – OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST is the identity we receive from Jesus through His Word.
As the body of Christ, our local churches’ culture should become Bible culture. When Bible culture becomes our church culture then the kingdom of God will come & nations will be transformed. [tweet this]
Here are 5 Keys on our identity in Christ:
To be able to fully identify ourselves with the DNA of Christ’s body, we first need to understand our identity in Christ.
- God identifies us as His CHOSEN
According to the Word of God we are His chosen people. That should get us excited. The word of God tells us in 1 Peter 2:9-10: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
There’s nothing we did that made us worthy of Jesus, we are simply chosen and therefore loved! [tweet this]- God identifies us as recipients of His grace and mercy
Verse 10: “. . . you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
He released His mercy over us when all we deserved was judgement. You’re identity is therefore screaming: “I am forgiven”
The King of Kings knows your struggles yet identifies you as #forgiven [tweet this] Scream that on the roof top somebody!
Forgiven people are too grateful to bother about what people think about their worship. To whom much is given, loves much! #ChurchDNA [tweet this]- God identifies you as his own
You’re not defined by your feelings, opinions of others, by your success or failures [tweet this], by the car you drive, the money you make or the house you own. You are identified as HIS own possession. Meaning not only that you are His chosen, you belong to Him.
Verse 9: “You are . . . a people for God’s own possession.” Verse 10: “You once were not a people, but now you are the people of God.”
Begin to confess that out loud now. I am God’s own possession. It doesn’t matter how ugly or broken you feel inside you, you still belong to HIM! [tweet this]
There’s an eternal war to destroy your identity – the enemy wants to take the Holy Spirit from you. Take head, you are now identified with Christ and have the power of the Holy Spirit within you.
The God of the universe watches you wake up and sings songs of love over you every day, #Pursue Him Today [tweet this]You are God’s precious child, and He created you in a way that pleases Him.
- God identifies you as Holy
Verse 9: “You are a . . . holy nation.”
We are not holy because we did holy acts. But because of His son Jesus who shed His blood for us and gave us His garment of righteousness. Therefore all our best of best works are still filthy rags in comparison to His righteousness.
It’s true that we are a struggling people with so many flaws. But His holiness makes us worthy to rise up and go to Him again.
- God identifies you as a Royal Priest
Verse 9: that we exist for this reason: “that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.“
A royal priest has direct access to God, which means all your life is a priestly service. That means you carry the presence of God in this generation!
This is the most exciting part of your identity in Christ, that all of us are called to serve Him. There is no one called to warm the pews or simply sing some songs on a Sunday morning, we are called to be His ambassadors. We represent Jesus. Knowing our identity in Christ gives us PURPOSE!
PURPOSE AS A CHRISTIAN: “IDENTITY LEADS TO DESTINY” [tweet this] Knowing who you are in Jesus is the key to a victorious Christian life.
We need to rise up to our identity in Christ, as His bride and His children. If we represent Him then we carry His presence. Presence is the overflow of dwelling at His feet. If identity leads us to discover our purpose, then we must be equipped in His presence to carry His power.
Are you ready to carry this new identity? Don’t forget to share this with someone you love and care. God bless you!
