The Burden of Moses
There was a season when Moses, weary from leading over a million grumbling Israelites, petitioned God for help. In fact, he cried, “I am not able to carry all this people alone; the burden is too heavy for me. If you will treat me like this, kill me at once, if I find favor in your sight, that I may not see my wretchedness.” (Numbers 11:14-15)
With mercy, God instructed Moses to call for seventy elders to draw near the Tent of Meeting, to stand with Moses.
The Lord promised “I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not bear it yourself alone.” (11:17)
When you draw near His Presence, is your cry, “Lord, I cannot leave this place without your grace? I need a portion of the grace that is on My Moses!”
Do you crave the physical presence of your Moses over the spiritual inheritance he can release over your life? Or are you willing to do whatever is necessary to secure the oil?
How much will you value the gift of the Spirit in your life?
The Gift of the Spirit
As promised, the next day, the Lord came and spoke to Moses, inside the Tent, as the elders stood around the Tent. And God took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the seventy elders.(11:25)
Some of the Spirit, the Scripture records. Not all.
How much, how long, these elders operated in the spirit depended on their valuing of the gift they received and the demand they would make to sustain this oil!
To unlock the gift of the Spirit, to access the fiery oil of Elijah and Enoch, there must be a demand. The elders drew near as instructed, but was a demand placed on this oil?
The Principle of Continuity
When these chosen elders drew close, the Spirit was given and the oil manifested as the elders prophesied.
And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it. (11:25)
Tragically, these elders, who witnessed God coming in the cloud to speak, face to face with Moses, did not continue to prophesy!
Why? Something happened to their alignment of an encounter that was given to them.
Continuity requires proximity.
Continuity requires connectivity.
To sustain the oil, here must be an ongoing connection for the fruit to keep multiplying.
Joshua’s Challenge
Long before the crossing of the Jordan or the felling of Jericho, Joshua won the challenge of continuity. He won this, not in the battlefield, but in Tent of Meeting, even as he served Moses day after day.
And Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp. (11:30)
When Moses and the elders departed, Joshua remained at the location of impartation. Joshua, the assistant of Moses from his youth, sustained his proximity to God, guarded his connectivity with the Father, and the oil continued to manifest in his life, all the way to the Promise Land!
Beloved, guard the oil at all costs. There is no greater calling for a child of God, than to seek the Face of God with joy, and manifest His Spirit in every context of your life! Practice and enjoy the power of continuity.
Shalom,
