I was recently introduced to a pastor. Three months into the pregnancy, his pregnant wife was diagnosed with carrying a child with Down syndrome. This is a condition in which extra genetic material causes delay in the way a child develops, both mentally and physically. It affects about 1 in every 800 babies.

The doctors looked at the pastor and suggested that they immediately terminate the pregnancy. It was an extremely shocking and mentally disturbing but being founded in God’s eternal word that says, Children are a reward from God Psalm 127:3, the pastor decided against it and planned to have the baby whatever the cost. For six months, they were overwrought with grief at the fact that their child was going to be born with this painful condition. Their nights turned to weeping. Through that pain in his desperation, the pastor turned to God and said, “Lord if this is what you want, we are willing to have the baby, only give us the strength.”

Around the same time, they met with a family of an 11 year old child who had Down syndrome. It was just a matter of seconds before his father quickly grabbed him to safety; the young boy was about to jump off the 12th floor while they were at his house. The terribly shaken dad could not even speak for few minutes. This particular incident troubled the pastor all the more.

Visibly upset by what he saw and with the pain of how this child had behaved, the pastor began asking God for grace to handle his own. During this inner turmoil, he began to tell God how he would trust God anyway and not doubt Him. His wife lost a lot of weight during this pregnancy due to the mental stress of what was going to happen.

A few days earlier, his wife began to vomit blood. He looked it up on Google and what he found was definitely not encouraging but he decided, against all odds, to believe in God together with his wife. During this time, his wife looked up to God and spent much time reading the Word of God, which gave her intense strength. Few days before the delivery, the doctors did multiple tests and confirmed that the baby was going to be born with Down syndrome.

The following Sunday, God sent a man of God to the church they pastor. His message that day was about believing in the supernatural. That day, they both decided not to give up but to believe God for a miracle despite the many contrary reports of the doctor.

Much to the shock of the doctors and all around them, the child was born, the baby girl, was perfectly normal and had no tumours in the brain that the doctors had detected! Our God is a prayer answering God. Their faith had made the baby whole.

I believe that this same Jesus is available to everyone who believes. The Bible says, He is the same; yesterday, today and forever. Their heart was so founded in God that they decided against terminating their baby.

I want to ask you today. What about your baby? I am not talking about just a physical baby. What about your spiritual baby? What about the dreams that God gave you? It might look like you are going through a storm but if you can hold and trust the Lord that gave you the dream, this storm too will pass.

By letting fear into your heart, you empower the enemy to terminate your baby.

Allow the seed go through the process. You need to see it through. Hold on to the Eternal Rock and you will not be shaken. He will take you through what you cannot go through by yourself.

I am reminded of a wonderful song written by Matt Redman,

Even though I walk, Through the valley, Of the shadow of death,
Your perfect love is casting out fear.
And even when I’m caught, In the middle, Of the storms of this life,
I won’t turn back,
I know You are near.

For I will fear no evil,
For my God is with me.
And if my God is with me,
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
Oh, no. You never let go. Through the calm, and through the storm
Oh, no. You never let go. In every high and every low.
Oh, no. You never let go, Lord, You never let go of me.

Don’t terminate your baby!
