What a strong statement that Peter makes in Acts 15:7!
“And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.”
When dispute arose about the differences between the Jews and the Gentiles, this was Peter’s opening statement. In other words, he was humbly requesting their attention to conclude a long-standing debate.
Few thoughts about God’s choice of people around us.
1. Debate was not unheard of even in the early church. Fact: “There will be people who debate with you no matter how anointed you are. Face it with Christ!” [ClickToTweet]
2. It wasn’t because of Peter’s worthiness that he was the first ever to reach out to the Gentiles. It was God’s appointment and mercy. So it is with all of us. Acknowledge God’s hand over your life and stand up to your call. [ClickToTweet]
3. Being first doesn’t make you more valuable than anyone else but it is important to give honour to whom it is due. “Look around. Honour those that go ahead of you.” [ClickToTweet]
Can you imagine how much unity, submission, honour and love would be in our churches if we only realize God’s hand in our matters.
Debates come and go. Let’s keep our ego aside and work in unity for His Kingdom.
