30th March 2013 marked the end of my employment with the stock broking company that I had been working with for the last 4 years 11 months and 9 days. It was the end of a corporate career which started almost 12 years ago and I was proud of it. Yes, I had decided to obey the call of God and work in the Lord’s vineyard for the rest of my life.

Jesus-salt-light

As I sat at my desk during my last working week, I had a lot of time to reflect on what I did and achieve in the last 5 years. The only thing I asked myself was, “Have I been the light and salt I am supposed to be?”

Then came the last day of work and to my surprise there was a farewell dinner party organized by my boss. I was invited to be there with my wife. As the evening progressed, everyone had something to say about me. A strong sense of gratitude towards God filled my heart as I heard my friends and colleagues speak of times and moments, in which God had used me to encourage, help, bring healing to their life and even grow spiritually.

What caught me by surprise was when my boss spoke of me; he teared up and said he would miss me. Why would he miss me? When I told him of my decision to leave, it brought about a few difficult moments between us and I was certain that all the relationship I had built with him over the last 5 years had come to an end in the last month of work. And that’s when it hit me.

My silence and work had shown them a side of me that I didn’t know they were seeing. They saw someone else through my life; even without me preaching. That explained why some colleagues came to me with prayer requests.

After these unforgettable moments of joy and teary eyes, I left that place humbled. I knew I was blessed because sometimes when God wants to teach you humility, He blesses.

I tried being the Jesus the word of God encourages us to be in this world (1 John 4:17) and I hope I did well. I am sure you might have had the opportunity to be like Jesus wherever God has placed you. Whether it is your office, college, school or even a trip down to the market, you can be the Jesus the world around you needs to know. [ClickToTweet] You could be their only chance at knowing this God who loves them so much.

I request you to remember us in your prayers as my wife and I take this journey set before us.

I am certain that you too must have had the opportunity to be Jesus in your area of influence. Do share with us your experiences and encourage us by writing in the comment section below.
