This entry is part 1 of 5 in the series GTH500

GTH500-square-2It is my joy to have Sarah Jakes write for the #GTH500 Series as we celebrate over 500 posts and 1,500,000 views. Sarah has been such an inspiration to the Revive Nations community.

Like every girl, Sarah Jakes dreamed of a life full of love, laughter, and happy endings. But her dreams changed dramatically when she became pregnant at age thirteen, a reality only compounded by the fact that her father, Bishop T.D. Jakes, was one of the most influential mega-church pastors in the nation.

Sarah is a testament to how God is in the business of making a masterpiece out of broken people. If you haven’t yet got to know her story, simply pick her latest book “Lost and Found”, and read our other post on Sarah here.

GTH: 1. What’s the one very important lesson you’ve learnt in your walk with God?

Sarah Jakes: One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my walk with God is to avoid planning! I leave my heart open so that it can be molded by Him. I am committed to being anxious about nothing. There is no opportunity or concern that is out of God’s reach. [tweet this] I stay connected to Him and seek the peace that comes from his divinely ordered steps.

2. What is the key to overcoming temptations?

I believe that as humans we all have a temptation that could threaten to detour our spiritual growth. Remembering that temptation is only temporary satisfaction helps me to prioritize my growth over momentary happiness. I believe that the more we deny ourselves from temptation the more we show God that we have the disciplined required to be blessed.

3. How does your personal time with God in a day look like?

I begin my day in prayer. I’m constantly communicating to God throughout the day. I truly believe that I am a friend of God. I reach out to Him much like I would any friend. I share my fears, excitement, and gratitude that I experience throughout the day. We must invite His presence into every area of our lives. I believe that invitation begins and is sustained by prayer.

4. Your advice to singles?

Fall madly in love with every part of your life, not just the good. If you have to false advertise to get attention then you’ll have to continue to do that to keep it. Instead, dare to unlock the mystery of who you are [tweet this] and when the time is right God will allow your path to cross with the person He’s created for you.

5. What must the church do to see a revival today?

I believe that revival has already begun in the church. There are many leaders who have committed to unifying the body of Christ. I believe as we bring healing to the many different parts of the body that we will see revival begin to truly sweep the world like never before.

We must be open to seeing God use new methods to reach a variety of different people.

6. Share one important lesson to the leaders.

Never allow your image to cloud your reality. [tweet this] Catering to the needs of others can often cause you to numb your own wounds.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Don’t be afraid to take a moment to truly collect and regroup. Leaders, your followers can only be as strong as the vessel leading them. [tweet this] We must make time to allow our strength to be renewed.

7. What would you want our generation to learn with you?

I hope that we learn to allow people the liberty to be themselves.
If we can begin a movement of love, grace, and compassion we can truly show the power of God’s love.
We must resist the urge to judge even when we feel judged. [tweet this]
We must not allow the pain from our experiences to permanently label ourselves or others.
