As pastors’ wives, the first and foremost thing is to have a deep relationship with God. A pastor’s wife’s job is not easy. There are heavy burdens you carry. It is so important a pastor’s wife has a deep intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. When people hurt you, you need to go to the feet of God, you need to hear the voice of God, you need to keep running to the Word of God to understand God’s voice in that situation.
Many pastors’ wives are burnt out or hurt. They’re bitter because of all the abuse that they have experienced. But there is only one place that you can receive your healing because you must be strong for your husband, for the church, for your children. The strength you need can only be received from the Lord.
Second, always stay united with your husband, because if the enemy can divide you both, then the enemy can divide your family. If your husband is not one with you in the spirit he won’t be able to fully function the way he’s supposed to function. You are his helper. Be a help to him, carry his burden, and pray for him. You’ll be his biggest and courageous supporter.
Take time to pray together as a family, as a couple, because the enemy is threatened by your unity. The enemy hates the fact that you’re united with your husband. When you’re united with your husband, your children will also bear fruit from your unity. When you are divided, your children will reap the same.
Appreciate your husband for everything he does
You have no idea how much it helps your husband. Be a positive influence to your husband and if somebody hurts you, don’t use that opportunity to influence your husband. If you see there is injustice, talk to your husband but don’t try to influence him and poison his heart because at the end of the day he’s a shepherd. He needs to love the sheep.
Remember that you and your husband’s relationship is the closest and most intimate relationship. Do whatever it takes to guard their relationship, to protect that relationship.
When somebody does hurt you, go to the feet of Jesus, take time to pray for them, take time for your heart to be healed. Speak to the Lord about it. Keep allowing the Holy Spirit to show you that person through the eyes of God, then take time to love the people. Our Lord Jesus has been through so much hurt, so much betrayal, yet He still chose to lay down his life for his people. Do the same.
Ministry is all about laying down your life.
There is a God in heaven who watches over you. Colossians 3:23 says, ”Whatever you do, work it with all your heart as working for the Lord rather than for people”. Whatever you do, whether loving people, counselling people, encouraging others, do it unto the Lord and He will reward your consistency. He sees the fact that you’re not giving up on people and that you are loving them. God will reward you!
Don’t give up
Don’t give up on your husband, don’t give up on your ministry, or yourself. The Lord will carry you through this. His grace is sufficient for you.
Last but not the least, never feel unqualified. You’re as equipped as your husband! If the Lord has called your husband, that means the Lord has called you! Never allow your unqualified feeling to limit you. Be bold and step out in faith. Start functioning as the woman that God has called you to be. If you have a spiritual mother that you respect, then follow and imitate her way and grow into her understanding.
Rise up, woman of God! Feed your spirit. As you feed your spirit, I believe God will bring people into your life that you can speak to, encourage and feed, thus it is important that you feed yourself. Your growth is their growth. Continue to keep growing, because God has great and mighty plans for you and through you.
