“I don’t feel like praying,” he said. “Please ask me to do anything else but pray.”
“But why?” I asked.
“May be because I know that God will change my heart. I know I have to repent but I don’t want to repent”, he replied, “I just want to be free for now.”
The truth is this was not the first time I that I’ve heard something like that. In fact, it was so familiar. So familiar that it did not take me long to realize I’ve been there too, a million times may be?
Mankind is not new to rebellion. It all started in the garden where we had the option to choose between right or wrong.
It is not every time that we choose the wrong because we didn’t know or were not informed. Sometimes we want to do it even though we know it is not the right thing to do. We simply want to take that risk and see if there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Would you call that curiosity? Freedom? Boredom? Or plain n’ simple rebellion?
I think deep down within us we all know the answer. The rebellious spirit that is in man keeps him on a constant run from God.
Until that time where we are afraid to step any further away or up until the time we are bored with a new arena of sin, we choose to proceed without being afraid of God or without the consciousness of time.
We forget the legacy we are called to make. The history we are to leave for our kids. The destiny we are called for. Time that waits for none. The ugly footprints and icy reminders, we will become for a generation that comes behind us.
When you wake up today, would it be too late? Would it be like the song writer that wrote?
“Life was filled with guns and war,
And everyone got trampled on the floor,
I wish we’d all been ready
Children died, the days grew cold,
A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold,
I wish we’d all been ready
There’s no time to change your mind
The Son has come and you’ve been left behind
A man and wife asleep in bed,
She hears a noise and turns her head, he’s gone,
I wish we’d all be ready,
Two men walking up a hill,
One disappears and one’s left standing still,
I wish we’d all been ready,
There’s no time to change your mind,
The Son has come and you’ve been left behind.
You’ve been left behind
You’ve been left behind
You’ve been left.”
But before you allow the devil to lie defeat into your ears, this is your time to wake up!
You’ve not been left behind. You are not late. The trumpet has not blown yet. The Son of God, Jesus, is still waiting for you. But the question is, will you wake up? Will you run like you’ve never ran before? Will you love God like never before? Will you stand up against sin like never before?
The choice is yours.
