Welcome GTH Family! Today is Day 7 of our Devotional series on Psalm 106 from Prophet Shyju Mathew’s Bible Study with Emmanuel Church in Montreal. Yesterday (Day 6), we learnt how to honour and receive correction from our Moses. Today, Prophet Shyju exhorts us to trust God in every situation.

Day 7: DO NOT ENTERTAIN NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AGAINST GOD

Psalm 106:24-25 The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them. Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the LORD.

The Hebrews started saying negative things about the Promise Land because they did not get what they wanted. If a person is fighting for a position, and are denied, suddenly they will despise what they craved.

Though the enemy cannot take away your blessing, he can delay your blessing and make you murmur. If you murmur against the blessing, then sin comes and finally, judgement comes.

Maturity arrives when we don’t get what we want and learn to shut up, even in our thoughts.

Maturity is thorough. Though diplomacy may be choosing to think but not share, maturity learning to control your thoughts completely. We serve a God who rewards our thinking.

In Numbers 11:1, the Scriptures note, And the people complained in the hearing of the LORD about their misfortunes, and when the LORD heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.

God refused His people to enter the Promise Land because He heard them grumbling in their tents.

The way to please God is with faith (Heb 11:6). When faith comes, refuse to let your mind to run crazy. Refuse to allow doubt, rebellion, or dishonour in your head, because you serve a God who sees what is in your head. It is what you do Monday to Saturday in your tent, when nobody is watching you, that is where the reward comes.

God saw Abraham in his tent and visited him.

What atmosphere is in your house? Can you keep thinking trusting thoughts even when your expectations are not met?

Pray: Lord God, have mercy on me and forgive me for my sinful thoughts. Holy Spirit teach me to think about what I am thinking, that all my thoughts will reflect trust in the God who loves me.
