Hello GTH Reader! In these 7 Days of Discovery, we are learning how our soul has five gateways: our eyes, ears, smell, taste and touch. Everything that our soul becomes, from the womb to the tomb, is downloaded as information to our soul through our senses.
Today, on Day 3, we are looking at Paul’s response in the shipwreck in Acts 27.
What would you do if 13 days went by, tossed about on a raging sea, without one spec of light, not sun, moon nor stars to guide you (and no electronics either)? Enjoy this powerful Word on calming the storms of the soul by Prophet Shyju Mathew, Founder of Revive Nations.
In Genesis 1:14, God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons. When God created the moon and the stars, they were formed to guide humanity in the darkness of night, a grand foreshadowing of Jesus Christ as Light to our darkened world.
Remember the story of Paul and the shipwreck? Paul, on his way to Rome, along with 276 sailors, soldiers and prisoners, were caught in a terrible tempest, which dragged their ship to and fro with hurricane winds for days. Even worse, Acts 27: 20, states “And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us.”
For a sailor, a starless sky, meant sailing without direction and having no means of navigation. For a day or two, that may be awful but still manageable. However, endless days of drifting in the dark meant certain disaster, as the seas are too vast to be compassed without guidance.
Paul the Apostle, captive on this very ship, certainly endured the same emotions and feelings that everybody else was feeling, as those seas raged and stomachs churned. As each day went by, the men lost even more hope. By one week in, most were preparing to die. By two weeks, no one ate, all appetite was gone, and depression marked the countenance of every face.
On Day 13, despite every information screaming at his senses, the wind, the rain, the screams, the hunger, Paul refused his soul’s interpretation and reached instead for the information in his spirit. If we be overcomers, and children of God, like Paul, we need to grow spiritually to a place where our soul does not have a capacity to overwhelm our spirit. With this understanding, Paul stood up on Day 14 and addressed the weary crowd:
I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For this very night there stood before me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship, and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.
For those sailors, for everybody else on the ship, all they saw was the darkness, as sun, stars, and moon remained hidden by the raging storm. Paul, once his spiritual eyes were opened, began to see and hear what was happening in the spirit. Paul saw the Angel of God and heard the message of the Lord.
Armed with the Word, the spirit realm now governed the natural through Paul’s faith in God. Paul witnessed how what happens in the natural can be controlled by our capacity to see and hear in the spiritual. The key remained in denying the soul’s information and reaching for the spirit’s revelation. 13 days in, Friend, Paul’s encounter with God changed the outcome for everyone.
