This entry is part 3 of 5 in the series 5 Keys to Hover like the Holy Spirit Series
(Here is Part Two of the Devotional Series, 5 Keys to Hover like Holy Spirit. Last week we studied our roots. Knowing our beginnings help us have a better life perspective. Follow this link if you missed and would like Part One: Know Your Beginning)

Hovering over our chaos, the Spirit brooded until God spoke: Let there be Light. And there was Light. Once the earth was formed, God stooped down in love and made Adam:

Gen 1:26-27 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

All of humanity, every single one of us, find our beginnings in that first man, Adam, who was formed with only two ingredients: dirt and God’s All-powerful, Life-Giving Breath.

Gen 2:7 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

Did you know, the moment a child of God is regenerated, their spirit comes alive, just as Adam’s did on that sixth day of creation?

When God spoke, He gave Adam clear authority to rule over everything on the earth. We, who are restored in Christ, must know that whatever was spoken to Adam is applicable to us. In Christ, we have the same dominion that was first given in the Garden to Adam and Eve.

Now God had warned Adam, “The day you disobey, you die.” God was not talking about Adam’s physical man; He was speaking of his spirit man. When Adam sinned, his spirit faded; the way he connected to God, alive and active, stopped when sin entered creation. Everything started deteriorating when sin severed his connection to God.

By one conversation with the enemy, all creation was defiled. One seed of doubt carefully laid, and sin took hold and the spirit was disconnected.

Before the Fall, by the Spirit within him, Adam walked in great power. He and Eve ruled over creation and daily communed with God.

So why do we not see this same power today? This power of the Spirit is NOT absent. The power of the Spirit is cloaked by our carnal nature.

When we get saved, this same Breath of God makes our spirit man alive.

If I am made alive by the same Breath, why am I not functioning just like Adam functioned before the Fall?

Jesus said in John 3:8 those who are born of the spirit are spirit. Where is the same functioning of the Spirit made manifest on the earth today?

Paul tells us in Romans, the problem is SIN:

The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it… So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it (Rom 7:14,15,17).

The carnal nature in me is that which sins. Paul explains that the choice is either to be Sin-led or Spirit-led:

Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit (Rom 8:5-6).

There are two parts of each of us, each trying to gain control, one spirit and the other, flesh. The flesh is not regenerated: that is just our shell but the shell is very sinful.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God (Rom. 8:7-8 KJV).

Beloved, our flesh is made to persist. Our carnal mind is hostile to God. It never submitted to God and it never will.

You can pray for an hour, full of fire, then go home and fight with your wife…you may beat yourself up, wondering, what is wrong wth me?

It’s your flesh.

But thank God for His SPIRIT!

Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit (Rom 8:5).

Beloved friends, the breath of God is the life of God and this LIFE is in us! IF we don’t function as we are supposed to, that is because OUR MIND is not submitted to the Holy Spirit. Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death but your mind controlled by the Spirit leads to life.

Is your mind controlled by the Spirit or by your carnality?

A renewed mind doesn’t just think; it is carried by the Wind.

What is the difference between the way Adam or Apostle Paul functioned and how we function? It is how we think!

Many people don’t carry the greatness that they are supposed to carry because their identities are not renewed. Their minds are limited to think like a slave, talk like a slave, act like a slave, because BEFORE Christ, that is WHO they WERE! Until our minds are renewed, fear will control and sin will dodge our every step.

But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you (Rom 8:9).

As long as the enemy can make you a slave of sin, he will keep your spirit crippled and your life powerless. In every attack the enemy does and gets you to do, in words, in thought, yes, every time the enemy brings sin in your life, he is attacking your mind.

Beloved, what is leading you? Your Flesh or your Spirit?

One KEY to learning to HOVER like Holy Spirit, is to MIND your MIND.

You are as the Wind! Submit your mind to the Holy Spirit and be renewed!
